A group of like-minded people felt the need for an Islamic School to cater for the needs of the growing Muslim population in and around Bromley and got together to form the Kent Muslim Cultural Association.

In March 2004 along with a teacher, Br. Delawar, we started Islamic lessons in the local village hall with 10 children. The lessons took place on Sunday mornings from  where the children were taught Qur’an, Islamic Studies and Arabic. We launched ourselves in a community event on the 1st of May 2004. We then had a trial period of five weeks in a local school with 50 children which was a huge success. From then on it has been a beautiful journey with many wonderful people.

The Supplementary Arabic School in Beckenham has been running successfully since 2004. It is a non-profit making school where we take a nominal fee to pay for the premises and the teachers. We have a dedicated team of teachers, admin staff and volunteers.

We hire the premises at Harris Academy Beckenham every Saturday morning term time. The school runs from 9am until 12:30pm.  There is a 25 minute break during which the children can eat, buy snacks from the tuck shop, borrow books from the library and play outside in the  grounds.  At the moment we have 100+ children registered with us.

The school caters for children from the ages 5-15 years. We have had 2 cohorts who have taken GCSEs in Islamic Studies and in Arabic with excellent results.

We have the privilege to be in a wonderful community where the Muslim population is growing by the day. The community is fortunate to have Muslims from all over the world merging together and the school has become a community centre. Thanks to the Islamic School we have run very successful charity events for the Tsunami, Pakistan earthquake and floods combining it with performances from the children. The birth of the Islamic school has only been a possibility due to the amazing team effort of our dear brothers and sisters in the community. May Almighty Allah reward each and everyone for their efforts and guide us all on the straight path.
